Deuce Bender was there at the beginning, 1977. Ironically though, the story behind the making the CD “Deuce Bender Presents a Musical Tribute: Seattle…A Baseball Town” begins not in Seattle, but in Chicago, at Wrigley Field, September 27, 2003.

Deuce, a Seattle Mariners fan from the first Opening Day, happened to be in the Windy City and was lucky enough to be in the stands as the Cubs clinched the NL Central Division pennant. Rooting, as always, for the underdog, Deuce stood and cheered as the fans hugged and cried and…sang. Songs celebrating the Cubs were blasted over the speakers and tens of thousands of fans sang in one voice as the players sprayed champagne on the field.

It got Deuce to thinking.

Where were the songs about the Seattle Mariners? In a sport where music has played such an integral part, where were the tunes that celebrated his favorite team and his favorite players?

On the plane ride home, he jotted down a few lines, which grew into a few verses, which blossomed into a few songs. A little history, some recent events, some winning, some losing, and a lot of love for the game and the team, combined to reflect one fan’s memories of 30 years of baseball in the Emerald City.

However, Deuce isn’t much of a musician, or singer, for that matter. Luckily, that’s not a problem in Seattle, because not only is Seattle is a major league baseball town, it’s also a major league music town. It was time to bring them together. He took advantage of his hometown’s musical depth and talent to put together a team of top-notch artists to bring his baseball music dream to life.

And now the dream lives, Seattle-style, inspired, as usual, by one fan’s devotion to his hometown team and the desire to share it with other fans.
